Skylar Hamilton is a Bassmaster Elite Series angler from Dandridge, Tennessee. When he is not tournament fishing, he guides on Douglas and Cherokee Lake. Skylar’s love for bass fishing started at an early age, during trips with his father, Larry Hamilton, and grandfather, Ralph McKinney.
Skylar started fishing the Bassmaster Open’s at 16 years old. His first Open event was on Douglas Lake, he finished in 23rd place. Although he had a solid tournament, especially at a young age, Skylar was not satisfied.
After a few years of sharpening his fishing skills, Skylar’s breakout season came in 2016. He won the opening Central Open event on the Arkansas River. Along with the trophy and prize, the win also qualified him for the 2017 Bassmaster Classic. Skylar followed his first Open win with a Top 12 finish on Louisiana’s Red River (7th place).
Going into the final Central Open (Atchafalaya Basin), Skylar needed to finish in the top 50 to secure a Bassmaster Elite invite. Day 1 was tough. He brought in 7lb-15oz, was in 84th place and out of the Top 5 in AOY standings. Under pressure, Skylar bounced back on Day 2 with 11lb-7oz, jumped to 48th place in the tournament, and moved to 3rd in the AOY standings – CLINCHING HIS SPOT ON THE 2017 BASSMATER ELITES!
